Learning for the information age

Xavier College fosters a community which values everyone as a learner and encourages adventure. A range of student learning styles, interests and teaching styles are accommodated to encourage all students to make progress in their learning each day.

Xavier College opened on the verge of a new millennium; an exciting and challenging time for our school community. Our students will take their place in society in the information century that is rapidly unfolding. Our aim is to prepare our students to become active, responsible citizens of the information age.

Technology will play a significant role in the lives of our children. To meet this challenge, our school recognises the need for a new approach to the curriculum. This means a new approach to learning and teaching and the integration of learning technologies. A range of technologies – interactive whiteboards, laptop computers, email facilities, and online reference material – enable our students to collaborate with other learners, whether it be in the same room, the next classroom, a classroom elsewhere in the diocese, or elsewhere in the world.

The use of online resources encourages Xavier College students to engage in collaborative learning. Access to learning technologies in the classroom at Xavier College sees the constant evolution of a new positive partnership between our students and teachers. The outcome of this partnership is our students becoming responsible and ethical users of technology.
