Mental Health Month

Xray and Mental Health Month

World Mental Health Day 2020 is celebrated on 10th October however, Mental Illness Awareness Week 2020 starts on October 4th  and will end on October 10th.

MENTAL HEALTH MONTH 6

XRAY stands for Xavier Reaching All Youth and allows students to engage in youth ministry by expressing and learning about their faith, engaging in discussion and growing together as brothers and sisters in Christ.

XRAY members participated in a range of strategies to ask questions about the mental health and wellbeing of those who may be suffering from depression, anxiety or struggling during this difficult time. Students began by participating in "Speed dating" and were asked a range of questions such as: does pineapple belong on Pizza? what is your favourite Disney film? and then deeper questions such as RUOK? and on a scale of 1-10 how are you feeling today? Students also participated in a Gospel reflection on letting go of fears and worries to pass this up to God and were asked to reflect on a few questions to take away from this session:

  • Who are the people I can turn to when things in my life get tough?
  • How do I know if someone needs my help?
  • What are some signs someone mahy show of being in a low mood?

The theme for Mental Health Month 2020 is Tune In.

Tuning In means being present, being aware of what’s happening within you, and in the world around you.
Tune In to your senses – what can you sense right now? What can you feel?
Tune In to your communities – what’s happening that you can be part of, or that you can help others be part of?
Tune In to stigma – how do attitudes and understandings of mental health and wellbeing impact people’s ability to live the lives they want?
Taking a moment to Tune In can help still and focus your mind, it can help you understand what’s going on for you and others. Tuning in can help you find a new perspective, and it can help you reflect and be present.
