The Xavier College Vision:

We are committed to making our school a centre of learning and excellence which provides a kaleidoscope of opportunities for its community of learners.

We encourage students to be comfortable with technology, and flexible, adaptable and well-informed about local and global issues.

We foster in our students a strong belief in themselves as well as the ability to think logically, critically, creatively and independently.

We provide a balanced curriculum through which varying needs will be met and abilities will be nurtured.

We create an educational climate which is purposeful and where common goals are pursued, nurturing a sense of self-worth in students.

We guide students to take pride in themselves, their heritage and their environment.

We encourage staff, students and parents to work collaboratively and to shape the vision and hopes which we all share.

Our motto and school crest

The Xavier College motto – ‘For the Greater Good’ – comes from the Latin word ‘Magis’, meaning ‘more’. Our patron, St Francis Xavier, and his companions used this phrase more widely to mean the universal good, or the better choice. It challenges our students to make decisions that prioritise the greater good in their lives.

Our College crest features:

  • a medieval shield and the checkerboard background, sourced from Saint Francis Xavier’s own family crest from the 1500s,
  • the brush cross, a contemporary image that symbolises Jesus Christ is at the heart of our school,
  • the colour red, representing the suffering and blood of Jesus Christ.
  • the unfinished edges of the cross symbolises the future, stretching out beyond defined boundaries.

Our history

Since 1999, Xavier College has offered exceptional education where curiosity, imagination and love of learning are treasured.

Xavier College officially opened on 1 March 1999. We initially taught 160 students in temporary buildings, located on the same site as Corpus Christi Primary School on Andromeda Drive, Cranebrook.

Construction commenced on the present Ninth Avenue site in 2004. During this time, Xavier College operated simultaneously from both the Andromeda Drive and Ninth Avenue sites.

In 2008, the College was completed with the building of the administration block and new classrooms.

Today, Xavier College enrols 1200 students. We look forward to providing exceptional Catholic education for generations to come!
