Talking Black Lives Matter Movement and Racism
The death of George Floyd triggered an outpouring of grief and despair globally and it reignited calls to reshape our society and look at how we treat one another. We all have an important role as agents of change and renewal, this is something Xavier Students model through our motto, For the Greater Good.
Mr Michael Pate said the three main things he had learnt from this movement was:
- We need to give a voice to the downtrodden, to the outcast and to the rejected, BLM is about giving voice
- We need to think differently about our the way we interact with our First Nation brothers and sisters, BLM is about giving perspective
- We need to embrace First Nation thinking as we move into deeper reconciliation, BLM is about integration
Xavier students sat down to discuss the Black Lives Matter movement and Racism and how they could make a difference through three main principles:
Consider, React, Contribute.
