Year 7 Science took on a series of experiments to explore the expansion of different states of matter.
Year 7 are currently investigating the way substances can behave under changing conditions. Today's investigation was looking at the effect of heat energy on the arrangement of particles in a substance. They were able to connect practical experiences with the theory that they have learnt and see first-hand expansion of substances. Year 7 are now able to link the consequences of expansion to real life situations like bridges, roads and footpaths.
The Balloon Experiment showcased the expansion of gas, and how the introduction of heat builds up the pressure and inflates the balloon.
The Colour Dye Experiment showcased the expansion of liquid and how the introduction of heat made the liquid rise up.
It was great to see the Year 7s so intently focused and excited to see the results.
